Why Webflow is better than Wix

Founded in 2006, Wix has risen to become one of the most popular website builder tools there is, coming second (and a long way second) only to Wordpress in terms of sheer popularity. Does that also mean it’s one of the best website builders? Yes, it is. But it’s not the best.

Wix’s popularity isn’t based purely on the quality and functionality of its tools, although it certainly is an awesome package. It’s so popular because it’s a freemium product, so you can use it to build simple websites for free, and because it’s very easy to use. Wix is great for individuals and for tiny businesses that aren’t expecting to grow any time soon. But for serious, ambitious businesses, Webflow is a much better option than Wix. Learn just some of the reasons why below.

Webflow is better suited to e-commerce on a larger scale

If you want a small, simple e-commerce platform dealing with a narrow range of products and limited customer reach, then you can build that with Wix quickly and easily. But if you want your website to deal with large numbers of complex transactions, then Webflow is the way to go.

Not only is Webflow better equipped to build expansive, complex, customized websites than any other website builder out there, it also boasts a lot of built-in features designed to make e-commerce more efficient and more profitable. For example, Webflow automatically calculates sales tax and VAT, meaning you and your staff don’t have to, and you don’t have to build any additional tools to do it for you.

Webflow is better for experienced designers

When experienced web designers and web developers get hold of a new website builder, it’s usually not long before they’re complaining of how limited it is, and how they can’t believe it won’t let you do this or that, and how this is like building a website with kid gloves on. They appreciate that these open up web design to everyone, but put Wix in front of a seasoned web designer, and they’ll probably hold their nose in disgust.

Webflow is different. Instead of limiting what designers and developers can do, it makes it easier for them to put their skills into practice, while still allowing them to get their hands dirty with full customization whenever they prefer. Many professional web designers say that Webflow actually teaches them to do their jobs better.

Webflow allows complete customization of design

While Wix, like most website builders, offers a generous range of website templates, it doesn’t allow designers to deviate very far from those templates, which can be frustrating, and results in a lot of samey looking websites.

Webflow offers templates too, but it also allows full customization of each template, meaning that two websites built on the same template can end up looking and feeling totally different. These extensive customization options are also great for tailoring websites to customer needs, and for making sure the site is built to serve its content, and not the other way around.

Webflow has deeper SEO tools

Wix is excellent for SEO, especially considering its pricing and overall accessibility, but it lacks some of the more advanced tools that can make a huge difference in getting your website highly ranked, and seen by as many potential users as possible.

Unlike Wix - or indeed most other website builders - Webflow generates fancy SEO stuff like sitemaps and 301 redirects. If you’re a client, all you need to know about those is that they make your website more visible. And if you’re a web designer or developer, then you ought to be pretty excited that Webflow does these things with a minimum of fuss or effort.
